Schmidt Peterson Motorsports drivers Tristan Vautier and Katherine Legge qualified for the 97th running of the Indianapolis 500 on Bump Day in the 28th and 33rd positions. After being bumped from the field on Pole Day, Vautier qualified for his first Indianapolis 500 with an average speed of 224.873 mph.

Morgan Lucas and the GEICO/Lucas Oil Top Fuel dragster team leave the NHRA Kansas Nationals with a renewed focus on a crucial part of the weekend game plan: qualifying. Lucas lost in the first round on Sunday at Heartland Park Topeka despite having the third-quickest elapsed time of the session. Only Shawn Langdon and Lucas’ opponent Doug Kalitta had better times.

Brandon Bernstein and the ProtectTheHarvest.com/MAVTV Top Fuel dragster made an early exit from the NHRA Kansas Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka. “It just wasn’t our weekend, bottom line,” Bernstein said. “We didn’t perform where we thought we would perform, considering what we did in Atlanta last weekend. We had high hopes of going some more rounds here, but it didn’t work out for us here.”

Lucas Oil will be the primary sponsor for rising star Tristan Vautier, driving the No. 55 Honda-powered Dallara, in the 97th Indianapolis 500 on May 26. It will be Lucas Oil's second Indy 500 in partnership with Sam Schmidt, who co-owns Vautier's car with Ric Peterson.
