State honor reflects enduring values guiding Lucas Oil into 2026
INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 6, 2025) – Lucas Oil is proud to share that its founder, Forrest Lucas, was posthumously awarded the Sachem Award, Indiana’s highest and most distinguished civic honor.
The Sachem Award was presented in a formal ceremony on December 19, 2025, by Indiana Governor Mike Braun, in recognition of Forrest Lucas’s extraordinary contributions to the state, his unwavering entrepreneurial spirit, and his lasting impact on business, philanthropy, and community development. Accepting the award on his behalf were his wife, Charlotte Lucas, son Morgan Lucas, and daughter-in-law Katie Lucas.
“Forrest Lucas embodied the American entrepreneurial dream and the Hoosier spirit,” said Governor Braun during the presentation. “His vision and generosity helped shape Indiana’s business landscape and touched countless lives across our state and beyond.”
Established in 1913, The Sachem Award is reserved for individuals who have rendered distinguished service to the State of Indiana and its citizens. Forrest Lucas’s selection for this honor reflects a lifetime of leadership defined by entrepreneurship, innovation, integrity, and an enduring commitment to giving back. This commitment to generosity is something the entire Lucas family has championed for decades and is now something Forrest’s son and daughter in-law are now spearheading.
“As we begin a new year, it’s especially uplifting to reflect on Forrest’s life and the impact he left on all of us,” said Morgan Lucas, CEO of Lucas Oil. “Honoring him with the Sachem Award is a fitting tribute to his lifetime of achievement and service.”
Forrest Lucas founded Lucas Oil Products from humble beginnings, growing it into a globally recognized brand while maintaining deep roots in Indiana. Beyond business success, he was widely respected for his philanthropy, patriotism, and steadfast belief in family and country.
“While our hearts continue to mourn Forrest’s passing, this recognition is a profound honor for our family,” said Charlotte Lucas. “Forrest loved Indiana deeply, and to see his life’s work recognized in this way is incredibly meaningful.”
As Lucas Oil looks ahead in 2026, the Sachem Award stands as both a tribute to the founder’s remarkable life and a reminder of the legacy that continues to shape the company—one built on hard work, innovation, and service—while continuing to invest in Indiana and communities across the nation.
