Financial Focus & Plant Perspectives

It’s an exciting time in Corydon. Through our restoration and modernization efforts, we’ve made significant investments at Plant 1 and 2 the last few years as well as updated our trucking fleet. These investments have increased plant capacity, created new production and sales opportunities, modernized processes to streamline workflow, restored facility infrastructure, created new jobs, and helped to improve working conditions for employees. In Plant 1, these investments included expanding our exterior tank farm, adding palletizers to automate the pallet stacking process, implemented hand scanners to improve workflow and recordkeeping, and remodeled and updated the office area. In Plant 2, we’ve installed a new roof and reorganized the layout through new racking technology, reorganized the office space and added a server room, and most exciting, invested in a new grease production facility to expand our sales and production opportunities that will allow us to expand into other market segments. There is still more to come! In March, we approved a multi-year CAPEX plan that will further modernize and maximize production and delivery at both facilities. This multi-year plan covers a variety of initiatives from basic infrastructure replacement, safety, business continuity, and expanded production and delivery capabilities. Through these investments, we will provide additional storage and blending capabilities, add a dedicated receiving area for raw materials, acquire new machinery & equipment to boost production, and continue investments into our facilities to enhance the employee experience. The past and future investment reflects our commitment to the company, employees, and region. We appreciate your commitment, flexibility, and support of all the changes.

Great Customers

For the past six months, our focus has been on our exceptional products. This month, however, we want to turn the spotlight onto our customers.

While we've always recognized this, recent months have solidified our belief that we have remarkable customers. They have remained steadfast and resilient alongside us during times of base oil, oil additive, and especially grease product shortages. Many customers have expressed eagerness to expand with Lucas, increasing their sales through exploration of new product lines, offerings, and collaboration with our Sales and Marketing teams to implement promotions that boost sales!

A recent training call with a long-time customer highlighted this enthusiasm to sell more Lucas products. Their response to our group training session was positive, demonstrating their excitement that we took the time to help them understand our extensive product range. Such enthusiasm and dedication underscore that we truly have the best customers, eager to grow and promote Lucas!

This customer's enthusiasm wouldn't be possible without the incredible teams at Lucas Oil who make everything possible. From developing new products to sourcing raw materials, production, shipping, and customer service, every department plays a crucial role. Our customers clearly recognize this teamwork within Lucas, which fuels their excitement to collaborate and promote our products!

We should all take pride in our customers acknowledging the daily effort we put in, and we should continue to be relentless in the pursuit of customer satisfaction.

A Hidden Gem in Southern Indiana

Lucas Oil Golf Course, commonly called “A Hidden Gem in Southern Indiana,” is spread across 265 acres in the foothills of the Hoosier National Forest. It is an 18-hole par 72 golf course with a restaurant, bar and 2 houses available for golfers to rent. The front 9 meander through parts of the “Old town” of English. “New English” was moved to higher ground in the 1990’s due to devasting floods in prior years. The back 9 is divided by creek bottoms and hills, creating a continuous flow of scenery that enhances the pleasure for the golfers and is unique to this “Hidden Gem."

The golf course was acquired in 2012 by Forrest and Charlotte. The ownership of the golf course came to fruition by their desire to support the local community. It all started in the late 1990’s with the talk of building a golf course in Crawford County. Specifically, the town of English. Forrest and Charlotte, spending many of their early years in Crawford County, were the first investors supporting the building of the golf course. Prior to 2012, the original management struggled to run a successful business which led to the acquisition of the golf course.

The full-service restaurant is known for providing quality food that includes hand breaded tenderloin, mushrooms, pizzas along with a full breakfast menu. The quality of the food draws non golfers consistently to enjoy the service, atmosphere and outdoor patio overlooking parts of the golf course.

The rental houses have been a great addition to the golf course. House #1 opened in 2016 and house #2 opened in 2018. Both houses have been booked from April through October for the past several years. Once a group of golfers stay with us they book for the next year to assure they are able to get the following years date.

LINKS TO LEVEL UP

This month's recommendation is Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations. Whole Hearts. by Brene Brown. The book focuses on vulnerability, providing honest feedback (even when it's tough), living your core values, and establishing trust. This book, while good for anyone at any level of an organization, is also a good resource for any relationships you have. It very easily translates to marriage, family, and communities. I love the tone of the book. It was very engaging, so it didn't feel like a chore to read - that's a must for me when I'm reading anything!

Dare to Lead

There is a Dare to Lead podcast as well, if that's more your speed. I've only listened to a couple of episodes, but I really enjoyed them and plan to continue listening. You can find the podcast on the Dare to Lead website or wherever you listen to podcasts.

BREATHING HABITS

Stress, anxiety, and nervousness affect everyone differently. One consistent way historical figures throughout our history have alleviated these symptoms is through effective breathing techniques. From the ancient stoics to modern day special forces, breathing techniques have always been a key element to combat stress. The Navy Seals use "box breathing" as a way to work through stress in tactical situations.

Breathing isn't just an automatic bodily function; it can be harnessed as a powerful tool to enhance physical health, mental clarity, and emotional well-being. Everyone from all walks of life benefit from understanding how to breathe consciously and correctly. This article explores a variety of proven breathing methods, their physiological benefits, and practical tips on incorporating them into your routine to promote relaxation, focus, and overall resilience.

NEWS

Lucas Oil’s Safety Team worked with the Harrison County's Emergency Management team in a simulation for a rail car spill. The haz mat drill challenged responders to rescue the "patients," evacuate potential threatened public, and to secure the leak at the railcar. This allowed all parties involved the opportunity to train in a low frequency high risk local disaster.
