McQueen Racing Geared Up for 2013 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals

Competing against the World’s best racers over five days with approximately 270 racers competing, including three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion and two-time Chili Bowl winner Tony Stewart, NASCAR star Kasey Kahne, Sprint Car icon and five-time Chili Bowl winner Sammy Swindell, reigning three-time champion Kevin Swindell and a plethora of the most talented racers from an array of racing backgrounds, McQueen Racing is gearing up to make a run for the biggest trophy in Midget racing - the coveted Golden Driller.

Having completed a stellar 2012 racing season, McQueen Racing is hoping at carrying their success to the 27th Annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the QuikTrip Center’s Tulsa Expo Raceway, January 8-12.

McQueen Racing’s 2012 Chili Bowl team will consist of team owner Shannon McQueen, of Bakersfield, CA, Guthrie, Oklahoma’s Michelle Decker and Oklahoma’s Trey Marcham, a 21-year-old Chili Bowl rookie.

McQueen, who became the first woman to win a BCRA Midget championship last year when she claimed the BCRA Dirt Midget crown, also claimed the 2012 USAC-Western States Midget championship, amassing four Heat race wins, nine Top 5 runs, two fast time awards, and 13 Top 10s in 2012. McQueen also holds the track record at Calistoga Speedway, Petaluma Speedway, Silver Dollar Speedway and Orange Show Speedway.

Along her championship run, McQueen came just shy of winning the inaugural 101-lap Johnny Soares Classic at Petaluma Speedway, claiming second after leading over half of the laps.

McQueen also recently accepted the prestigious Kara Hendrick Spirit award, one of the top awards for women in Motorsports. Established in 2003, the award is given in honor of Hendrick, one of USAC’s most accomplished female drivers, who posted a pair of USAC TQ Midget feature wins before tragically losing her life during a USAC-Western Midget event at El Cajon, CA in 1991.

“I am super excited to be the recipient of the Kara Hendrick’s Spirit Award. I remember watching Kara when I was young and looked up to her. If Kara was still alive I would not be the one breaking records becoming the first female driver to accomplish things because Kara would have already done it,” said McQueen.

In addition to McQueen’s stellar 2012, McQueen racing boasts a feature win, with Decker having claimed a win at Bakersfield in April in one of the McQueen racing Spike/ Esslinger by Duane McQueen entries.

Though a Chili Bowl rookie, Marcham is familiar with the bullring Dirt oval, having captured third in the A Class at the 2012 Tulsa Shootout. A senior Engineering student at Oklahoma University, Marcham brings experience in Micro Sprints, Ford Focus Midgets, 360 Non-Wing Sprint Cars and asphalt Late Models, with six Championships at I-44 Speedway in Oklahoma, as well as having claimed both the A-Class and Non-wing A- Mains at the Inaugural Donnie Ray Crawford Memorial/Race4Life in Tulsa.

Decker was third in the ASCS Sooner Region points in 2011 and was the 2008 Sprint Car champion at Oklahoma’s State Fair Speedway. Decker was also the 2005 Super Sprint Winter Nationals champion at State Fair Speedway.

Marcham will compete aboard the #7t R.D. Marcham Energy/Best Western Tulsa Airport/Metal Supermarkets/2B Recording/Pinnacle Energy Services, LLC Spike/ Esslinger by Duane McQueen on Wednesday, while Decker chauffeurs the #7d Simpson/Carter Custom Finishes/Quantum Consulting LLC./Dale's Electric/Westerberg Applications Spike/Esslinger by Duane McQueen on Thursday with McQueen competing Friday in the #7 Lucas Oil/Simpson/ButlerBuilt/Murfdogg RC Cars/K&N Filters Spike/ Esslinger by Duane McQueen.
