Just ahead of Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis, the online publication StadiumJourney.com has named Lucas Oil Stadium the best sports stadium in the nation.

"To me, Lucas Oil Stadium has the complete package," says Stadium Journey co-founder Paul Swaney. "It's entrenched right there in the city, they've got good food, the parking is accessible. The fans are friendly and knowledgeable."
Swaney calls Indianapolis the best sports town in the United States. Two other Indianapolis venues make the top 25--the former Conseco Fieldhouse, now known as Bankers Life Fieldhouse is Number 16. And Butler University's Hinkle Fieldhouse is Number 25.
But it's Lucas Oil Stadium that stands out, even though it's one of the smallest stadiums in the National Football League.
"They could have packed in eighty, ninety thousand seats but they made a conscious choice not to," says Swaney. "The Colts care about their fans and they chose not to be greedy."
Because of that design, he says, there's "not a bad seat in the house." And he prefers the atmosphere of an indoor stadium. Lambeau Field in frigid Green Bay is ranked second.
"You can call me a wimp or not a true football fan," said Swaney. "But I would much rather sit in a temperature controlled arena than I would on the frozen tundra."
And he loves the Hoosier hospitality shown by Colts fans.
"In some places, fans are passionate and they take that passion in sort of a negative direction," he said. "My experience in Indianapolis is that fans are passionate AND friendly--which is a great combination."
