It was announced today that Forrest and Charlotte Lucas, founders and owners of Lucas Oil Products, Inc. have made another significant investment within the State of Indiana. The Lucas’ have purchased what is considered to be by many the most magnificent residential estate in Indiana. The property, formerly known as the Hilbert Mansion (also known as Le Chateau Renaissance), sits on 33.6 acres within the City of Carmel, just north of Indianapolis.
Forrest, Charlotte, and Morgan LucasThe property, originally built by Stephen Hilbert and his wife Tomisue, is reminiscent of a French Country Manor fit for a member of the aristocracy. When asked why he decided to purchase such an estate Forrest Lucas replied, “I believe it is a sound business investment. But more importantly, I consider this property to be a true work of art which should be preserved and shared.” Mr. Lucas continued, “This is an asset with enormous potential not only for Lucas Oil but also for the community. I anticipate that this property will be utilized for various business activities as well as community functions. We have not figured it all out yet but we have a talented group of people dedicated to developing a business plan to make the best use of this investment.”
Forrest and Charlotte Lucas were both born and raised in Indiana with many of their children and grandchildren still residing within the state. When asked if the property will be utilized as a residence Charlotte Lucas replied, “I really don’t know right now; however, I see this as the perfect site for occasional fund raisers and benefits. The property is so amazingly beautiful, with plenty of room to accommodate just about anything”.
"I think there's enormous potential for The Mansion to become one of the great corporate and philanthropic locations in America today,” says Realtor Greg Cooper for Prudential Realty in Indiana. “It can serve the community in so many ways while remaining a true landmark for the State of Indiana and the entire Midwest."
“The successful auction of the estate house closes the chapter on one of the last remaining legacy issues of the old company,” CNO Financial Group CEO Jim Prieur said. “With our transformation nearly complete following our comprehensive recapitalization and restructuring, we are focused on the future and the significant opportunities for profitable growth ahead of us,” he said.
The Lucas’ are perhaps best known in Indiana for their 20 year naming rights deal for Lucas Oil Stadium, home to the NFL Indianapolis Colts and the 2012 Super Bowl. The stadium prominently sits in the heart of Indianapolis proudly displaying the Lucas Oil name for all to see. However, in the Southern part of the state within the city limits of Corydon sets the main manufacturing plant for Lucas Oil Products, Inc. The state of the art facility is a major employer within the region and has stimulated the growth of many supporting businesses within the community. Forrest and Charlotte Lucas are still actively involved with the day to day management of Lucas Oil Products and spend a great deal of time in Corydon looking after the family business.
Other investments the Lucas family has made within the State of Indiana include the Lucas Rail Lines, Inc. formerly known as the LNA&C Railroad (Louisville-New Albany-Corydon Railroad). The Rail line was purchased by the Lucas’ to ensure rail service to their plant in Corydon as well as other local businesses along the route. Additionally the Lucas’ own and operate two Top Fuel Dragster Team’s based in Brownsburg which compete nationally in the NHRA circuit.
Forrest Lucas’ belief in the strength of American business can be seen in Lucas Oil’s corporate policies of providing opportunities in other states across the country. These include Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri, the Lucas Cattle Company, a breeding stock operation on 14,000 acres in Cross Timbers, Missouri and Lucas Oil I-10 Speedway in Southern California. Also in Southern California, is Lucas Oil’s Corporate Headquarters and second largest manufacturing facility located in Corona, CA. The Lucas Oil HQ also houses a state of the art High Definition (HD) production studio that produces more than 350 hours of motorsports programming on network and cable TV, known as Lucas Oil Studio’s. More recent is Lucas’ investment in the housing industry in Phoenix, Arizona.
Forrest Lucas is nothing if not a pragmatist. The Lucas company’s growth has been fueled by his determination to produce the best lubricants and problem solving additives in the world. Forrest teams his marketing to the R&D of motorsports - a sport close to the heart of almost every Indiana resident, knowing that high profile success on the race track follows through directly to sales. Lucas Oil owns, produces, sanctions and sponsors race teams, series and events that include the NHRA, NASCAR, ARCA, ASCS, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League and the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Series. Its latest racing series, the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series - is a 16 event off road ‘short course’ championship that features some of the most exciting racing on the planet.
All this motorsports success built on Lucas Oil’s well deserved reputation for quality and performance under extreme conditions makes his familiar red, white and blue products outsell and outperform the competition at truck stops, major retail automotive chains, garages, after market stores and independent speed shops on four continents. When questioned about the enormous investments in Indiana which he and Charlotte have made, Forrest simply stated, “We’re Hoosiers at heart; investing in the State we love is the right thing to do”.
