Roger Crawford and Lucas Oil Heat Things Up At Bugorama

Roger Crawford VW Bugorama

Roger Crawford VW Bugorama It was a hot weekend at Sacramento Raceway on September 5thfor the BUGORAMA #66. America’s longest running VW event played host to an all VW Car Show, ¼ Mile Drag Racing, Swap Meet and a Vendor Row. Thousands of VW enthusiasts converged on the Sacramento Raceway to rub elbows with fellow peers & competitors, share some greasy handshakes and swap tips & tales of the fastest sweetest VW in the world.

For Roger Crawford, the current record holder for the world’s fastest air cooled naturally aspirated VW, it was another epic weekend at the track; however, it was the critical tuning of the Karmagia’s setup that put Crawford in the winner’s circle.

Arriving on Friday afternoon about 3:00pm, it was over 100 degree's. The track temp was measured to be upwards of 145 degrees and these conditions would play with the cars reaction on the strip. Crawford and the crew opted to forgo the test run and left the car in the pits.

Saturday’s schedule called for a test and tune session before qualifying. For some unknown reason, that was eliminated from the schedule. No racers made any test runs what so ever.
Going into qualifying with no testing on the car was not ideal for the Lucas Oil Karmagia to nail down a solid run right out of the trailer.

Roger Crawford VW Bugorama During the first round, the car set up was a little too soft and spun the tires off the starting line resulting in a less than perfect 10.16. After the first round, and clinching the number 2 spot, Crawford made several adjustments which improved the VW’s performance and added the required speed to achieve the number one spot with a 10.03 @ 137.51 mph.

One last qualifier on Sunday morning give the Quickest Fastest Super Street PRA one more chance to run down the track. After a slight change, the car slowed down just a tad running a 10.05 at 137.60 which still had Roger dialed in as the number one qualifier.

During the first round of eliminations, Crawford reverted back to the 10.03 setup where he ran the best run yet in the Bugorama Competition. Roger hammered down a 10.02 at 137.27 witch got us the win.

Roger Crawford VW Bugorama Going into the final round, the track conditions were evolving as weather and temperatures fluctuated. Crawford is known for his clever predictions on what his VW desires to go fast. One small adjustment and it was off to face the Christmas tree and close out one final drag race for the event win.

Roger slowed down just a bit running a 10.09, but it was all he needed for the victory. “All in all, this was a real good outing for us. Winning the race, running 10.00s and 5 mph faster than our competition all day, what else could you ask for?”

Roger Crawford and his Lucas Oil Karmagia currently hold  the record for the world’s fastest air cooled naturally aspirated PRA Super Street VW: 9.90 flat at 138.42 MPH
