Top 10 Finish for Patison
Coming off of a Podium finish in NASCAR Whelen Super Late Model Series, Jason Patison and Team headed to Gresham, GA for stop number 8 in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. This event is the first time in over 20 years that the series has visited the 5/8 mile track and with the new high banked corners and race surface it promised to be a fast day at the races.
The Lucas Oil, E3 Sparkplugs #17 machine was fast right out of the trailer, posting the 11th fastest time after the final practice and was only five-hundredths of a second out of the top 5. During the qualifying session the track was slicker than the team had anticipated, causing the car to be free on entry and exit of the corners. While the team did improve on their practice time it was only good for the 16th starting position.
Knowing that the race wouldn’t start for another 4 hours, the team knew that the track would be much cooler and the slick conditions experienced in qualifying would be gone. The Team was correct, when the green flag dropped Patison went to work passing cars and dodging wrecks. With many of the drivers not having any race experience on the track many mistakes were made to the tune of 4 red flags for excessive wreck clean-up. Patison suffered minor damage during one of the wrecks and was forced to pit for minor body repair. After the pit stop Patison again dodged wrecks and passed cars and worked his way up to an 8th place finish.
“We had a really good car tonight, I wish we would have had a few more green flag runs because I know we could have picked up some more positions, but we are very happy to get out of here in 8th place and very happy to bring home a top-10 for SuperClean in their first race back with our team,” said Patison in a post race interview.
The team’s next event will be at Loudon Speedway in NH on September 17th. For more information please visit www.jasonpatison.com
