Lucas Oil driver Langdon aims for Lucas Oil National title
BRAINERD, Minn. (August 9) – With his spot in the Countdown to the Championship secure, Top Fuel driver Shawn Langdon is looking to put it all together this weekend and win the 29th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway.
"With this being a Lucas Oil race, this is a huge one for us," said Langdon, driver of the Lucas Oil/Speedco dragster. "With my teammate Morgan Lucas winning there last year, this entire team has some big expectations to uphold. You want to make sure you do well and represent yourself and your sponsors as best you can."
Langdon added that after his team's much-needed, two-week break, which followed a grueling seven race stretch over eight weeks, a good showing in Brainerd could go a long way towards building some positive momentum heading into the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals presented by Lucas Oil and the start of the playoffs.
"We've had a couple of weeks off, which we all needed, but now everybody is getting the itch to start racing again," Langdon said. "We've got to get it going. We've got one more race and one more test session before the start of the Countdown. It's time to turn everything up a notch and go for it. We've got nothing to lose.
"We've been close for so long; it's getting to be now or never time for us."
Langdon is seventh in the NHRA Full Throttle Series Top Fuel Points. After the completion of the Brainerd event, the season points will reset for the top 10 drivers on the class and it will be time to get hot during the season's six-race home stretch.
"Everyone is going to have to dig down deep and find that extra 10 percent of effort," Langdon said. "We've got two good cars, two good crews, and two good sponsors. Racing in the Countdown will separate the men from the boys."
Qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals begins at 2:45 p.m. CDT on Friday with eliminations starting at 11 a.m. CDT Sunday. The qualifying show will be aired on ESPN2 at 11 p.m. EDT on Saturday, and eliminations will be shown on the same network at 10 p.m. EDT Sunday.
