LITTON’S LUCAS OIL DRAGSTER SETS THE STAGE AT FIRST EVER NITRO JAM
JUPITER, Fl. February 2, 2010: Many did not know what to expect with the IHRA’s new style of racing, which highlights nitro-methane fueled cars in a racing format with no qualifying, but the story was soon told with record breaking fan attendance and a one-of-a-kind show. Friday attendance surpassed any records from IHRA’s storied history and Saturday’s attendance was just as strong. The new format highlights events for the fans (such as Fanfest, autograph sessions, and a four hour professional race from start to finish) and even puts them in the driver’s seat as they are the ones to decide the qualifying, which sets the competition ladder.
Bruce Litton was among the first to WOW the fans he thrilled them during his first run down the West Palm Beach International Raceway, blasting to a 4.61 at 321 mph, effectively taking out opponent and reigning champ, Del Cox Jr. After posting this run, which remained the quickest elapsed time and top speed of the entire Nitro Jam, Litton went on to runner up in the first race of this historical event.
“This was a great inaugural event for Nitro Jam. Attendance was unbelievable. The fans seemed to really enjoy themselves, the weather was perfect, and it was a good show,” told Litton. “My team did an excellent job this weekend with the Lucas Oil dragster. Our first run Friday night set the stage for what we hope to do at each Nitro Jam this year. We laid down a solid pass at 4.61 and held on to top speed and low ET of the meet and then went on to runner up. Unfortunately we weren’t able to repeat for Saturday’s race, as we had a breakage in round one. The car broke the A-arm to the right front suspension during the burnout. We are thankful that it broke then, because if it had happened during the run, we surely would have crashed. God is watching over us. Overall it was a good weekend and the first Nitro Jam really got us pumped up for the rest of the year.
“It was also nice to have Jeff Carles and his wife with us on Friday. Jeff is the Lucas Oil rep for Florida. It’s always great to meet the folks from Lucas Oil in the various parts of the U.S. and Canada. We appreciate their support of our team and are glad to work hand in hand with them to prove the excellent performance of Lucas Oil products.”
Before the event, Litton toured area TV news programs to promote the race. “We visited with CBS/Fox Sports News to talk about our Lucas Oil team and the upcoming event. It was a great experience. South Florida is a new market for IHRA and people seemed to be very receptive both of our Top Fuel team and the Nitro Jam event. It was great to see all the fans come out and support us. They have a lot of enthusiasm and you could feel it throughout the entire facility. We’re certainly looking forward to going back there in the future.”
With the first Nitro Jam in the books, Litton has made it clear that he’s loaded for bear in 2010.
