Hector Arana scored seventh number 1 qualifying position of the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Season
LAS VEGAS NEVADA (Saturday October 31, 2009) – The top qualifying position at the Lucas Oil
NHRA Las Vegas Nationals was occupied with the same rider that has filled it six times this season. Hector Arana rode his Lucas Oil Buell to his seventh No. 1 qualifying position of the 2009 season on Friday’s second qualifying session.
Arana entered the 7th Annual Lucas Oil NHRA Las Vegas Nationals in the number one position in points. He was anticipating to qualify his Buell number one in order to increase his point's lead over second place Ed Krawiec. Hector started Friday qualifying his Buell in the number 4 position.
In the second session on Friday, Hector blasted his Buell to a stellar 6.979 second 192.03 mph pass. His 6.979 was quickest through all four Pro stock Motorcycle qualifying sessions. With that, Hector Arana earned his seventh Pro Stock Motorcycle No. 1 qualifying position of the 2009 season.
Arana will lead the two-wheel contingent into race day for the seventh time this season and the fifth time in the last seven events. More importantly, Arana added to his lead in the championship chase, using a combination of qualifying bonus points and regular qualifying points to push his advantage from 28 points to 34 entering the first round.
"Every point counts," said Arana. "We did try something new for today, and we struggled a little bit. The power is there. Now, I need to sit down and analyze everything and make a decision on what I want to do for tomorrow. "Everything’s happening so fast this year. I qualified No. 1 in 1994, I believe, and then I went through a dry spell, and now I have seven this year, so it’s awesome. I know that Eddie Krawiec is on my side of the ladder, so I just got to stay focused. All I need to do is stay consistent on my lights, and I should prevail."
Hector Arana enters Sundays with great confidence. "We changed engines on Saturday so that we would have information on both engines, said Arana. "It worked out for us and now we are assured that we have two excellent running bullets. We are pulling out every stop imaginable and not holding anything back. Larry Morgan and I will use all parts the parts we need in order to get this Lucas Oil Buell a championship.
