Despain Closes Out 2008 with consistent Top 10 Finish

Despain Motorsports closed out it's 2008 racing season by running very consistently in posting four top 5 finishes and two top 10 finishes out of seven events entered.

In the last two visits to Burnside, KY's Lake Cumberland Speedway, Elliott continued his success at the South Central Kentucky racing facility by scoring two more top 5 finishes with a 4th place finish on Saturday, August 30th and a 2nd place finish on Saturday, September 27th.

On Saturday, September 20th, Team Despain ventured back to the Hoosier state and Brownstown Speedway to compete in the Modified portion of the 29th Annual "Jackson 100" for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. The Indiana track was not very kind to Elliott in two previous visits as he was looking to improve upon a DNF and a DNS. This night would look much more promising as Despain finished 5th in heat race #1 and then went on to win the first of two consolation races. But by the time the Modified main event rolled out, the track had been majorly used up by the 100-lap LOLMDS feature race. Starting 17th on the grid, Elliott was able to maneuver his way around some of the traffic to end up with a respectable 12th place showing. "We were very pleased to make the show with the caliber of cars there and, considering the hole we started in from the beginning, all in all I thought we had a really good night", stated the 19-year old Despain.

Despain Motorsports spent the remainder of the season racing at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY. In four nights of racing at Central Kentucky's "Baddest Bullring", Elliott would score a 4th, a 5th and two 8th place finishes. The 4th place finish would come in the last race of the season's "Fall Brawl" as the chauffeur of the #75E would finish 2nd in Heat race #1 and find himself in a dog fight in the feature event. Elliott chose the bottom line of the red clay racing surface to run for the entire 30 laps. While this didn't prove successful in the early stages of the race, Despain would charge back with avengence in the latter stages to claim 4th place on lap 28 and hold on to the position for the remaining two laps.

Perhaps the most impressive run of these four races for Despain Motorsports occurred in the Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series' "Clayton Homes 30" on September 19th. After running 3rd in the third heat race and starting 11th in the main event, the Campbellsville, KY native committed an error when spinning out on lap 10 of the 30-lap race. Now at the back of the 25-car field, Mr. Despain then proceeded to pick off one, sometimes two cars per lap and in doing so, vaulted himself back to an 8th place finish. "I knew even after my mistake that I had a very good car", said Elliott. "I just had to settle down and run my line knowing that I could get back to the front".
