Lucas Oil to Sponsor NHRA National Event at Brainerd International Raceway
Brainerd International Raceway will host the 23rd Annual Lucas Oil Nationals August 12-15. The Lucas Oil Nationals is the 16th event of the POWERade Drag Racing Series schedule and the last race before the prestigious U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis.
The youngest son of Forrest and Charlotte Lucas, Morgan Lucas, will make his professional driving debut behind the wheel of the Lucas Oil Top Fuel dragster owned by Joe Amato. Lucas earned his Top Fuel license last weekend at Maple Grove Raceway by making three passes within the mandatory 5.20-second boundary. His best run of the weekend was a 4.76-second (307 mph) followed by a 4.82-second run (305 mph).
Twenty-year-old Lucas will compete in both the Top Alcohol and Top Fuel dragster classes this weekend.
Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series qualifying action starts Thursday with Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car qualifying starting Friday. Top Fuel and Funny Car racing action also starts Friday with Lucas (Lucas Oil dragster), Brandon Bernstein (Budweiser/Lucas Oil dragster), Larry Dixon (Miller Lite dragster), Ron Capps (Skoal Racing funny car) and Tommy Johnson, Jr. (Skoal Racing funny car) all competing for the top qualifying spot in their respective classes.
Past winners of the Lucas Oil Nationals include Doug Kalitta in Top Fuel; Gary Densham in Funny Car; Greg Anderson in Pro Stock; and Antron Brown in Pro Stock Bike.
Friday (August 13) and Saturday (August 14) discount tickets to the Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway are available at participating NAPA, Carquest, Bumper to Bumper and other independent auto parts stores.
Television coverage of the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals will air on ESPN2 with qualifying action from 8-10:00 p.m. (ET) August 14 and eliminations scheduled for 7-10:00 p.m. (ET) August 15. Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series action is slated to air on ESPN2 from noon-1:00 p.m. (ET) August 22
