Gary Phillips Wins 11th Australian Top Alcohol Dragster Championship

Gary Phillips drove his Lucas Oil Top Alcohol Dragster to his 11th Australian Championship last weekend at the Winternationals held at Willowbank Raceway in Brisbane Australia.

In front of a record-setting crowd, Phillips stunned the fans by earning the low qualifier award, setting the top speed and low E.T. of the event (5.74-seconds, 243.64 miles per hour) and winning the event en route to securing another championship.

Going into the event, Phillips enjoyed a 55-point lead in the championship points standings and after winning the event Phillips won the Top Alcohol Dragster title by 105 points.

Phillips won his first Top Alcohol Championship in 1991 and defended his title in 1992. He then went on to win seven consecutive championship titles starting in 1995. With his 2004 Top Alcohol Championship, Phillips has recorded an unprecedented eleven total titles in his drag career.

Phillips also competes in the Top Doorslammer class, driving his 1953 Lucas Oil Studebaker.

The Lucas Oil team will take a six week break from drag racing and have already started a rigorous maintenance scheduled to ensure they stay in championship form.
