Paul Efantis and Lucas Oil Set New National Records in Englishtown

Paul Efantis drove his Lucas Oil “Octane Booster” Toyota Solara to victory during the 4th annual Nitto Extreme Performance NHRA Sport Compact Nationals contested in Englishtown, New Jersey.

En route to earning his first NHRA win of the 2004 season, Efantis broke his own national elapsed time record with a 7.716-second pass at 180.72 miles per hour. This mph was fast enough to also set the speed national record.

After earning the low qualifier award with his record-breaking pass, Efantis faced No. 8 qualifier Sean Glazer. Efantis was quicker off the line and never looked back with a performance of 7.733-seconds at 180.02 to Glazer’s 9.89-second E.T. at 154.97 mph.

“We went into the first round with the correct set-up and clutch we thought would work for this track,” said Greek Efantis, Paul’s father. “We didn’t run the number we wanted to in the first round of qualifying so we went back to the set-up we had in Fontana. Then we went out and set both national records.”

Round two paired Efantis against Carlos Gonzalez, Jr who suffered car trouble before staging giving Efantis an automatic spot in the final round. The final round saw a fantastic drag race with Efantis getting the win light (7.916/171.90) against Carlos Gonzalez, Sr. (8.809/119.19).

“This was a really sweet win,” continued Greek. “It was nice to get the Wally for the team and Lucas Oil. We are going in to Atco looking for another win.”

The next event for Efantis and the Lucas Oil team will be the Northeast Sport Compact Nationals at Atco Raceway slated for May 15-16.
