As the reigning UMP Regional Champion, Ben began his 2008 regular season with a big win in Saturday night’s season opener at Whynot Motorsports Park. It was not an easy draw, easy win because Ben drew the biggest number for heat race starting positions. His number 66, made famous by Muskogee’s racing legend Tom Laster (also his current age) placed Ben at the tail end of his heat. There was a caution on the original start which brought the field of nine modifieds back to their original positions. When the green flag flew on the restart it stayed green for eight laps and the checkers. Ben made a great run from 9th to finish 2nd.

There was a full field of 25 modifieds including ten hot-shoe travelers from the Columbus, MS who are regulars at the Baddest Bull Ring in the South and Magnolia Speedway. Ben’s outside front row starting position for the feature suited Ben well because he likes the high side of the fast momentum 3/8 mile speedway.

Ben took the lead at the drop of the green flag and led all 20 laps. Several caution flags brought the field to his rear bumper but he continued to set a blistering pace, pulling away from the field. Ben stated that the car got tighter and tighter in the final laps but it was still a good ride. Earlier in the week Ben had converted his rearend from the traditional Ford nine inch floater style to a new Winters quick change. After the race Ben stated, “I don’t know if the new quick change made the car any quicker, but it sure looks cool”. It will give us a greater ability to tailor our gear ratios to the different track we travel to.

As always we would like to thank all of our sponsors for their assistance and we look forward to an exciting 2008 season.
