Todd Bodine Qualifies for Darlington

Todd Bodine and the Lucas Oil team qualified 38th for the Carolina Dodge Dealers 400 at Darlington Raceway. The Larry Gunselman & Chris Edwards-owned NASCAR Nextel Cup car led laps 30-32 before suffering rear end problems on lap 38 taking them out of the race.

“Anytime a small team can qualify ahead of well-funded teams, it feels good,” said Gunselman. “We led a few laps at Darlington and that was very exciting.”

“By the time we changed the rear end we were too many laps down and there was no point in going back out on the track,” explained Gunselman. “We didn’t want to jeopardize the only car we had for the race.”

The Lucas Oil proved they could run with the best of them at Darlington after a disappointing weekend caused by a broken engine at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Bodine qualified 37 in a 44-car field at the Golden Corral 500.

Gunselman, a veteran stock car driver in the NASCAR Busch series, will take over driving duties of the Lucas Oil Products Ford for the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway March 28. Live coverage will begin Sunday at 1:00 p.m. on FOX.
